Exciting times at Victory Bible College Thailand as this year saw the launch of the new Church Musicianship Program (CMP). Teddy, a student at VBCI is heading up the ministry project for his fourth year Bachelor studies. This is a new program of study for aspiring musicians, singers and songwriters to study and achieve a standard of excellence in the worship arts. There has been a lot of preparation for the initial year of CMP in anticipation of the arrival of the new students. A second study hall has been built for the musicians as well as a new sound-proofed music room equipped with audio recording equipment, instruments and electrical P.A. Teddy’s God-given vision for this ministry began over five years ago when he asked God for direction in his life. That’s when God asked him ‘What’s your passion?’ The answer was easy: Teddy had always had a deep desire to train and develop people to reach a standard of excellence. ‘I saw that there was such a need for a music program, especially within the Thai churches, for worship leaders and musicians. I saw too many drummers who couldn't keep time, guitars that were out of tune and people who couldn't sing but were trying to! This used to really hinder people’s experience with God. I myself have been in that situation. I believe that a church with brilliant music and heart-felt worship is a church that has life.’ Teddy has labored until now, casting the vision for an international music school, traveling to Canada, the U.S., and the Philippines to meet with perspective teachers and get things into place. Over 10,000 flyers were distributed to every church in Thailand. He attended worship seminars in Pattaya and visited some large churches in Bangkok, getting the word out as much as possible. The first year has far exceeded all expectations of the staff and students alike. One cannot help but notice an atmosphere of energy and creativity between the pupils. The days are long and action-packed; there’s a lot of homework as well as exams, biblical studies, weekly verses to memorize but this is nothing for the students who have such enthusiasm and excitement for the course. Laem Suwatt (33) is a Thai national studying his first year at CMP. He is the worship leader at the ‘Fah Mueng Thai Church’ in Bangkok. Three years ago when contemplating what to do with the rest of his life he prayed to God about it. Students who enroll in the Church Musicianship Program learn how to reach a very high standard of worship, both in musical skill and spiritual growth. The vision of this ministry is that students graduate with a full understanding of the art of worship and worship leading and have the ability to train up others in a spirit of excellence. Please pray for the students that they have strength and wisdom and peace, that God will continue to fulfill their vision.
