Statement of Faith

We Believe:

In the One true and living God, eternally existing and revealed to us as the Father, Creator of all things; the Son, Jesus Christ, God incarnate; and the Holy Spirit.

In the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, physical ascension, and His soon coming return to this earth in power and glory.

The Holy Scriptures are the inspired and complete revelation of God's will concerning man's salvation.

In water baptism as a public declaration that a believer has died with Christ and risen with Him to a new life of righteousness and authority.

In the unity of all true believers as a universal body of Christ regardless of denominational affiliation.

In the celebration of the Lord's supper as a remembrance of Jesus until He comes again.

In the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit, including the baptism with the Holy Spirit, as an experience distinct from and following the new birth.

The Vision of Continuum Media

Continuum Media is committed to Mobilizing Believers into their Great Commission destiny. We will do everything in our power to help every believer find his or her destiny in Kingdom ministry.

It’s not just about your local church, although that is where it all begins. It’s not about your denomination, although faithfulness to your house brings inheritance and blessing. It is about Jesus and His clear directive to go into all the world and make disciples of all men. Whether you go or you enable others to go, Jesus will build His Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.
God’s purpose is a Kingdom purpose, His plans are Kingdom plans and communication is the key to uniting the vision of Abraham’s innumerable heirs. Continuum Media is determined to employ every leading-edge media advantage and skill available to redraw the lines of communication between God’s sacrificial senders and those who lay down their lives on the front lines.

The body of Christ is a “continuum” A continuous extent, succession, or whole, no part of which can be distinguished from neighboring parts except by arbitrary division (dictionary.com). We are one.

A & D World Missions Board of Directors

Al & Terry Purvis

FOUNDING MISSIONARIES

The Purvis family became involved in missionary work in 1982. At that time they were active members of Evangel Assembly Church, home of Teen Challenge, in Grand Prairie, Alberta. In congregations all around them they helped with children's ministry, preached in bible studies, led worship, and took every opportunity to serve God in any areas needed.

They became fundraisers for Aid & Development World Missions Canada,to start a home in Thailand for children orphaned by the Vietnam war. After sharing the vision time and again with people all across Canada, Al & Terry soon found the vision had become their own, realizing they were the ones God should send as parents of the children's home. (For more info on A & D World Missions Canada, click here.)

Al and Terry Purvis of Grand Prairie Alberta, and their three children Margaret, Becky, and Christopher,( a fourth child, Esther, was born later in Bangkok) left for South East Asia in March 1982 and have spent the last 26 years living out their commitment to this ministry. (For the complete History of the El Shaddai Children's home, click here.)

Terry Purvis is the daughter of Jim and Betty Lewis, long-time residents of the High Prairie area of Canada. Even before she had missions in her heart Terry would hear the cries of children in her spirit, prompting her to pray for direction in her life. Al Purvis, from Cranbrook, B.C., was radically saved at age 18 and his passion for Jesus has been an example for countless people for the last 30 years. As this couple has committed themselves to God, God has used them as motivators and ground breakers in Asia and the West.

As the children of El Shaddai grew and began familiees of their own, God spoke to Al and Terry to start a Bible College in Thailand, beginning a shift from being the parents of a small family, to the parents of nations. Today they minister in 8 nations across Asia, as well as in Canada, the U.S. and the UK.

MINISTRY PROFILE

Aid and Development World Missions Canada (A&D) is an apostolic ministry to the nations of Asia, building God’s Kingdom through making and mobilizing national disciples. Father/son Kingdom relationships provide the accountability and empowerment needed to fulfill the Great Commission in such a hostile world. This “kingdom-minded” attitude and the efficient continuum of senders and goers has made A&D and it’s affiliated churches one of the most productive Kingdom endeavors in Asia.

A&D World Missions Canada is a registered Canadian charity. CRA status can be viewed at: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/charities/menu-e.html

MINISTRY DIRECTORS

This organization was formed in 1979 by a small group of tenacious Canadians who set out to pioneer a new kind of missions ministry in Asia. The founding directors are Harland Hendrickson, Bill Wiess, Norman Labrentz and Ray Bassett. Al and Terry Purvis were the first missionaries, being sent to Thailand in 1981. The current A&D board of directors includes Mervyn Mediwake, Eve Bassett, Wayne Boursma, Laurie Neufeld, Kent Prestage, Harland Hendrickson and Al Purvis. The A&D office administrator is Margaret Williams. She can be reached at 1-800-958-3352 or adworld@telusplanet.net

MINISTRY PREMISE

We believe that Jesus is building His church, not through studies and strategies, but by doubling His anointing through each successive generation – an ever-increasing release of power through the spiritual adoption of sons and daughters.

We believe that the Great Commission requires a life-long commitment to the process of adopting and training disciples in every nation, and requires the functioning together of all the ministry gifts that Jesus has entrusted to his followers.

We believe that the Gospel has a global scope and transcends man-made borders and racial, cultural, and religious diversity. The Gospel is for every person.

We believe that the responsibility and sacrifice required to fulfill Jesus' commission is intended to be shared corporately among all believers.

MINISTRY PROGRESS

Beginning in Thailand with a home for abandoned children, the family has grown to include extensive leadership training and church planting ministries in six Asian countries to date. The influence of this vision continues to grow, both across Asia and in the western world. This ministry inThailand is not only successful but reproducible in other nations. “Continuum Media” is the television, magazine and internet media arm of A&D, launched in 2003 to help communicate God’s Great Commission plan.

MINISTRY FUNCTION

Every A&D World Missions director is a local church pastor or ministry leader. Each one has personally invested in and visited the work in Asia. Together they give oversight to this ministry. The churches we have established in the nations of Asia fellowship and function together under the banner of "Victory Asia" (www.victoryasia.com). Victory Asia is an apostolic family of churches identified with the vision of Victory Churches International Canada (link to www.victoryint.org). We also work in close partnership and vision with The Miracle Channel (link to www.miraclechannel.ca) and other missions-minded ministries.

MINISTRY FINANCES

A&D has experienced an overall increase in donations designated towards special projects, accompanied by a steady decrease in general revenues. Increased efficiency has allowed the ministry to quadruple in size. A&D offices are operated by ministry friends in whatever space is available. Mobilizing as many people as possible and increased financial resources into the mission field is an ongoing challenge for everyone involved.

MISSIONARIES

Each missionary must be sent by a local church, raise their own personal support, travel costs, supply their own equipment, and work within the parameters and
protection of this ministry vision. An average of about 20 missionaries work in this ministry while opportunities are available for many more people to answer God's call in Asia.

A&D World Missions Canada provides missionaries with:

  1. leadership accountability: vision, planning, protection, and pastoral care of missionaries and projects.
  2. administration: NGO facilitation of charitable donations, transferring funds, legal entrance to foreign countries.
  3. fund raising advise, materials and ultimate financial accountability for missionaries

Missionaries each give 10% of their financial support to maintain the administration that serves them and their supporters. All ‘charitable’ income for each missionary is administrated through A&D World Missions Canada, providing financial reporting and accountability.

SENDING CHURCHES

All missionaries serving through A&D are required to be solid members of a local sending church. They are accepted as missionaries on the recommendation of their local pastor and are contracted with A&D to maintain that home-front relationship and return to that church at the close of their tenure. Sending churches are expected to send and support their best, people of proven integrity and abilities, and maintain open communication for encouragement and support while their missionaries are on the field. While on the field, A&D provides leadership and pastoral care for missionaries. Each missionary ministers as an ambassador of their sending congregation while A&D provides the strategies, accountability and efficiency that ensures the sending church will reap abundant fruit to their Great Commission account. In the case of disciplinary problems on the field, the sending church and A&D are committed to implementing solutions and restoration.
